Bay View 360: Pathways to Meditation – Movement as Meditation, Movement as Prayer
Hand gestures during meditation, or mudras, carry specific goals of channeling your body’s energy flow. More than 100 known mudras have been developed over the centuries.
The way we bring our hands together for prayer or meditation reflects the way we touch the things of our world. The way we set our feet on the ground echoes our relationship with the earth. The way we move in liturgy creates a tone for worship. We will explore movements of hands and feet as both a prayerful meditative practice, and as the foundation of our action in the world.
About the Instructor: Nancy-Laurel Pettersen has taught Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement classes since 2003. Her focus is meditative applications of the method. Feldenkrais uses gentle movement and directed attention to help people learn new and more effective ways of living the lives they want. You can increase your ease and range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination, and rediscover your innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement. These improvements will often enhance your thinking, emotional regulation, and problem-solving capabilities.
