The Bay View Association is excited to announce a fun-filled week of family-friendly activities and events for all ages from Wednesday, July 3 to Sunday, July 7. Celebrate Independence Day week with a mix of spiritual enrichment, music, movies, and community festivities in the picturesque Chautauqua community of Bay View. All events are open to the public and many are free. 

Wednesday, July 3: 

  • 8:00 p.m. – String Faculty Concert: Join us at Hall Auditorium for a special concert themed “Death and the Maiden – Journey Through Mortality and Transcendence.” Experience an evening of profound and beautiful string music performed by our talented faculty. Free admission. 

Thursday, July 4: All Free events 

  • 10:00 a.m. – July 4th Parade: Celebrate Independence Day with our traditional parade featuring kids on decorated bicycles. The parade begins at the Bay View Post Office and is a festive event for the whole community. 
  • 11:00 a.m. – Reading of the Declaration of Independence: Gather on the steps of John M. Hall Auditorium for a stirring reading of the Declaration of Independence. This patriotic ceremony honors the founding of our nation. 
  • 11:30 a.m. – Open House: After the reading, enjoy lemonade at the Bay View Library’s open house and explore the Bay View Museum. These activities offer a chance to learn more about our community’s rich history and enjoy light refreshments. 

Friday, July 5: 

  • 10:00 a.m. – Scarrow Friday Forum: Undersheriff Matt Leirstein will discuss “The Opiate Epidemic in Northern Michigan: What You Need to Know” at Voorhies Hall. This important talk addresses a critical issue affecting our region. Free admission. 
  • 11:00 a.m. – Student Chamber Music Concert: Head to Crouse Chapel for a delightful concert showcasing the talents of our student musicians. This performance is a wonderful way to support young artists and enjoy beautiful music. Free admission 

Saturday, July 6: 

  • 8:00 p.m. – Crouse Visiting Artist Series: We are excited to present the second concert in our Crouse Visiting Artist Series, featuring “Revisiting Creedence.” Join us at Hall Auditorium for an evening of classic rock music revisiting the iconic hits of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Tickets available online or at the box office. 

Sunday, July 7: 

  • 10:45 a.m. – Assembly Worship Service: Winn Collier, will be the guest pastor at Hall Auditorium. Collier teaches pastoral theology and directs the Eugene Peterson Center for Christian Imagination at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, MI. Join us for an inspiring message that promises to uplift and provoke thoughtful reflection. This ecumenical service is open to all. 
  • 8:00 p.m. – Vesper Concert: Enjoy an evening of music with the concert titled “Caribbean Cruise” at Hall Auditorium, showcasing delightful performances that will entertain and engage the entire family. Tickets available online or at the box office. 
  • Noon- 1:00pm – Explore Bay View Museum for a chance to learn more about our community’s rich history. 

 

Monday, July 8 – Wednesday, July 9: 

  • 10:00 a.m. – American Experience: American Experience goes to the Caribbean, as Professor Ada Ferrer presents a series of lectures exploring five hundred years of complex relations between Cuba and the United States. She will host two days of discussions at Voorhies Hall. This enriching hour offers an opportunity for deeper engagement in a welcoming environment. Free admission. 

Monday, July 8: 

  • 7:30 p.m. – Monday Night Movie: Bring the family to Voorhies Hall for a screening of “Cuba and the Cameraman” as we continue American Experience week. Free admission, donations accepted.
