Faith and Family
Every Sunday morning, we offer faith education classes for children, youth, and adults from 9:30 am – 10:30 am during the Assembly Season (June 16 – August 11, 2024). Sunday School
Children’s Sunday School – Hitchcock Hall
- For Children age 3 (potty trained) through 10.
Led by Rachel Solgat and Beth Kirkpatrick, this Bible-based one-room gathering meets every Sunday from 9:30 – 10:30 am
during the Assembly Season (June 16 – August 11, 2024). - Located in Hitchcock Hall – next door to Hall Auditorium.
Youth Sunday School – Hitchcock Hall
- For youth 11-12 years old.
This class meets every Sunday from 9:30 – 10:30 am
during the Assembly Season (June 16 – August 11, 2024) - Located in Hitchcock Hall – next door to Hall Auditorium.
Teen Sunday School – Library Garden
- For youth 13+ years.
This class meets every Sunday from 9:30 – 10:30 am
during the Assembly Season (June 16 – August 11, 2024) - Located in the Library Garden sitting area (or inside when raining)
Adult Sunday School
Christian Fellowship Class – Voorhies Hall

- Meets every Sunday from 9:30 – 10:30 am (June 16 – August 11, 2024).
- The Christian Fellowship Class is facilitated by Bill Hauschild and Stephany Clothier. Participants view videos of some of the top speakers and leaders in the ministry field. Each week there is a stand-alone class to accommodate first-time attendees as well as class regulars. All are welcome to attend at any point during the summer. The talks, which last 30-40 minutes, are followed by facilitated group discussion and application. Come ready to learn and grow in your spiritual walk! The coffee and fellowship are free! We hope to see you there!

Living the Questions Class: Exploring the Wisdom of Progressive Christianity – 1st Floor of Loud Hall

- Meets every Sunday from 9:30 – 10:30 am (June 16 – August 11, 2024).
- The Living the Questions Class is facilitated by the Rev. Linda McDermott.
- Participants will explore the wisdom of progressive Christianity through video interviews with thirty acclaimed scholars, theologians and other experts. Through reflection and conversation, this class is designed to be a resource for people who are in the midst of a lifelong conversation about the mysteries of life and faith.
- Located on the first floor of Loud Hall.
Men’s Bible Study – Campus Club

- Meets Friday at 8:00 a.m. (June 14 – August 16, 2024).
- The Men’s Bible Study is facilitated by Roger Plummer. The 2024 theme will concentrate on the “I Am” statements of Jesus in the Gospel of John. All are welcome to attend at any point during the summer. The study, which last around 30-40 minutes, is followed by group discussion. Come ready to learn and grow!
- Located at the Campus Club building – behind the Post Office and Gathering Post.
Women’s Bible Study – Campus Club

- Meets Friday at 9:45 am (June 14 – August 16, 2024).
- The Women’s Bible Study is facilitated by Kathy Olmsted.
- All are welcome to attend at any point during the season. The study does not require homework or prior knowledge. The group reads and participates in onsite discussion. Come ready to learn and grow!
- Located at the Campus Club building – behind the Post Office and Gathering Post.
Youth and Young Adult Ministry
Youth Group (for middle school students entering 6th grade through 8th grade)
- This group will meet on six Sundays (June 30 – August 4, 2024) at 5-6:30 p.m. in the Recreation Building.
- The Youth Group will be coordinated by Ellen Blanchard.
- Ellen Blanchard – Youth Group Coordinator: Ellen grew up at First Presbyterian Church of Petoskey as an active member of their youth group. She believes this is where she gained her leadership skills. She continued her faith journey through college (Kenyon College) and grad school (University of Michigan) while studying education, and learning how to empower young people. Ellen brings 13 years of experience working with youth in settings as varied as Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor, MI; Montreat Conference Center in Montreat, NC; and in educational settings in Michigan and Minnesota. Her goals include focusing on youth empowerment and finding out what youth truly need in their lives and how she can guide and support them.

Paige Simard – Youth Group Assistant: Paige is a lifelong attendee of First Presbyterian Church of Petoskey and lover of building community through Christ. She currently attends Wayne State University in Detroit, where she studies anthropology. Paige’s love of people and culture intertwines with her faith and helps her better understand how she can serve the church and serve others with passion, love, and a desire to seek out justice. As a college student and an individual with years of experience in community involvement, Paige is ready and willing to work with the youth and get to know them on a deeper level.
Shoreline (for high school students entering 9th grade through 12th grade, or just graduated)
- This group will meet on six Sundays (June 30 – August 4, 2024) at 6:30-8 p.m. in the Recreation Building.
- Shoreline will be coordinated by Ellen Blanchard.

Mind-Body-Spirit Connection
This class is part of a new initiative to introduce weekday courses to the Worship & Education offerings in an effort to expand the Worship program’s impact.
- Body Prayer – Nancy-Laurel Pettersen, PhD
- Nancy-Laurel Pettersen, PhD, has been a practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education since 2003. Her focus is meditative applications of the method.
- The contemplative practice of body prayer is based on four words of Julian of Norwich: Await, Allow, Accept, Attend. In this class we will explore movements of prayer organized around those four words. Attention to breath, balance, centering, and grounding will give shape to this practice.
